I just love these Mason Jar Oil Lamps we just discovered! Not only can you use a variety of different oils, but they will be cheaper to run than regular candles – and by adding spices or a few drops of your favorite essential oils, you can create your own wonderful custom aromas that will fill the space with a golden vibe!

It’s yet another creative way to use the glorious Mason Jar. You could also use bigger jars if you want something really long lasting – and these oil lamps make great survival kit items – giving you an additional potential light/heat source in times of need. I imagine that pretty much any vegetable oil could be used – so it’s a good way to use up old vegetable oils that seem a little ‘past it’ or lower grade than you would like to use for the kitchen.

One thing that’s important – please be sure to follow similar safety procedures as when using ordinary candles: Don’t leave them unattended; place them on a safe, flat, stable burn-proof surface (a large earthenware plate or similar; be sure to place them somewhere they can’t get knocked over, our of the reach of children or pets – and last but not least, don’t leave them underneath / close to a curtain or other combustible materials. The heat from a candle flame can travel straight up a surprising distance if the air is still. These lamps should certainly be made and used with adult supervision.

  1. These are all wonderful ideas. I’m not big on doing this kind of thing but what I’ve seen here makes me want to try my hand at it.

  2. Made these for Christmas gifts for extended family. My family is very crafty and loves this type of thing but while they look and smell beautiful I cannot keep the wick lit!! It seems to be saturated with oil and I am using 100% cotton wicks but they burn and then burn out. It is very frustrating. I made 4 and they are no good if they won’t stay lit.
