Our friend Jillee has posted a recipe for a fantastic sleep salve. Did you know that essential oils are absorbed through the soles of the feet? They should not be put on undiluted, so this salve is the perfect way to go. Simply massage into the soles of your feet before bedtime and look forward to drifting off more easily into the land of nod. Plus, it will soften the skin of your feet at the same time! Sounds good to me. 🙂

Jillee’s formula contains essential oils of ginger, grapefruit, lemon, peppermint and cinnamon bark. The “base” is comprised of Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Beeswax and vitamin E oil (this last ingredient is optional).

Another essential oil that has been noted since old times for its sleepy-time qualities is lavender. If you’re interested to check out a whole list of herbs that have been considered by herbalists (ancient and modern) to have sleep-assisting qualities, check out this page: Top 10 Herbs For Insomnia.

Another great way to use lavender to help sleep is to leave a bottle of lavender essential oil (somewhere safe it won’t spill!) open somewhere nearby so that you just get a gentle waft of the aroma as you are closing your eyes. Works surprisingly well and there have been scientific studies that support this.

As it turns out, tinnitus and brain health are strongly linked.

Even more interesting: The reason why top army officials are not deaf after decades of hearing machine guns, bombs going off and helicopter noises…

Is because they are using something called "the wire method", a simple protocol inspired by a classified surgery on deaf people from the 1950s...

  1. I love the information you post on facebook. I share it with friends and family, but lately I have been getting the gotcha captions and/or these notices: Some people may not be able to see this attachment because of its privacy settings. I am not sure if this is your doing, so I thought I would let you know. Please keep posting your great information. Thank you

  2. My grandson’s eyes get red and swell almost shut once a month…every time he spends a weekend with us. We suspect it might be an allergy to wood, or trees, as we heat with wood. What can we do for him?

  3. Hope all is well. Soon we can be out in herb garden. Every month toward the end I like to adventure out and fine new blogs.

  4. I really need to try this. Sleep is an elusive state for me most nights. But, WOW! The ingredients for this salve would be expensive, and I don’t have any of them, so I would have to start from scratch. I’m sure that once I had the ingredients, I could make enough salve to last a long time, but the initial cost is daunting. Do you know if anyone sells the salve, already compounded?
