Hair loss is a problem that many suffer from due to several reasons. There are many factors behind hair loss including aging, [1] too much stress, [2][3] excessive smoking, [4] genetic factors, iron-deficiency, [5][6] pregnancy, [7] scalp infection, and hormonal imbalance. [8] Men and women are both affected by this condition.

Humans have an average of around 100,000 hair strands on their scalp. Losing 50 to 100 strands is considered very normal. If you see some hair coming from your scalp when you brush your hair daily, do not fret yet. However, when you start losing more than that, it is imperative to address this issue, so it does not lead to baldness or bald spots.

To those who can afford expensive hair fall treatments, it is easy for them to go to the nearest salon. However if money is a big concern, there are effective home remedies to control hair fall without spending on pricey hair care products that are mostly chemical-based and have negative effects. [9]

1. Egg Mask

Egg white contains high levels of proteins, [10] zinc, sulfur, iron, iodine, and phosphorous, which are nutrients and minerals that promote hair growth. Egg mask is one of the most amazing masks that you can use to replenish and restore the softness of the hair.

To make an egg mask for hair growth and to prevent hair loss, you will need:

• 1 whole egg (2 if you have long hair)
• 1 tbsp olive oil (optional)

Whisk the egg and olive oil in a bowl until the white and yolk are combined. Apply the beaten egg to your hair. Leave it on for about 20 minutes. Wash your hair with cool water because hot water will cook the egg. Condition your hair and let it air dry. Do this 1-2 times a week.

2. Aloe Vera

This plant is believed to be a good natural herbal remedy for hair loss. It is a relevant part of a holistic approach to treating the condition which affects 50% of the male population. A study revealed that aloe vera gel is significant in hair growth promotion. [11] After shampooing your hair, massage in some pure aloe vera gel. Leave for several minutes before rinsing off. You can also make a hair mask that you can apply once a week or every fortnight. Just mix equal quantities of aloe vera juice and extra virgin coconut oil. Apply and leave it in for as long as possible for strong, smooth and bouncy hair.

3. Lemon Juice

Lemon is a rich source of nutrients such as vitamin C, B vitamins like B1, B2, B6, and B12, antioxidants, and folic acid which make the tangy fruit a power-packed [12] natural remedy for hair growth. Its juice also helps in fighting dandruff and making your hair smooth and shiny.

To use lemon juice for hair growth: In a bowl, squeeze the juice out of half a freshly cut lemon. Mix the juice with olive oil or coconut oil. Massage your scalp with the mixture for 5 minutes. Rinse your hair with a mild sulfate-free shampoo and condition. Do it once a week. This treatment works well for people with oily hair.

4. Fish Oil

Omega-3 fatty acid is found in fish oil that can greatly enhance your hair’s health and density. [13] This polyunsaturated fatty acid can make your hair shinier and stronger and eliminate traces of dry scalp and dandruff.

Note that fish oil is a nutritional element, not something to use topically!

Here are ways in which you can use fish oil for hair growth.

1) Include it in your diet: Eat fish at least twice a week so you can get the right benefits that will help in hair growth. The recommended fish includes mackerel, herring, salmon, sardines, albacore tuna, and lake trout. If you don’t, then, 2) consider supplementation. A health professional can guide you properly about the correct dosage.

5. Peppermint Oil

Rich in antioxidants, [14] peppermint oil is one of the best oils for preventing hair loss. It also contains vitamin E and mono unsaturated fatty acids which are essential for promoting hair growth.

To get the benefits of peppermint oil, use it for a scalp massage. If you have jojoba oil or coconut oil on hand, you can create an effective mixture at home.

Just add two drops of peppermint oil to one tablespoon of jojoba or coconut oil and rub the mixture into your scalp for 30 seconds. If the tingling is too intense, add more of jojoba/coconut oil. Test it on a small patch of hair just in case there is any irritation.

You can leave the mixture in your hair for about 20 minutes, but make sure to wash it out thoroughly. Be sure to avoid any peppermint oil contact with your eyes.

6. Ginkgo Biloba

Studies have shown that Ginkgo biloba can reduce hair thinning and hair loss. One of them treated mice with ginkgo extract [15] and confirmed the herb’s ability to stimulate hair growth.

Ginkgo extract may be best for hair loss when taken as a supplement. It is also used in hair treatments to make the hair healthy and shiny. It is usually used in combination with coconut oil, grapeseed oil, or jojoba oil.

7. Onions

Onion is another inexpensive way to promote hair growth. A study [16] published in the Journal of Dermatology found out that people with alopecia, a medical condition that causes hair loss, experienced hair re-growth after applying onion juice twice daily for two months.

To make onion juice, the process is simple:

Peel about four onions and chop them into small pieces. Extract the juice out of the onion by either squeezing it or using a juicer. Place the paste in cheesecloth and squeeze all the juice out. Apply the juice to the scalp or the hair roots.

8. Beetroot

Beetroot juice is rich in protein, potassium, phosphorous, calcium, and vitamins B and C. These nutrients [17] are essential for healthy hair growth.

9. Coconut Milk

Loaded with vitamins like niacin and folate, coconut milk is probably one of the best things you could pamper your hair with. A 2003 study [18] that first appeared in the Journal of Cosmetic Science showed that coconut oil application could reduce the protein loss for undamaged and damaged hair.

To make coconut milk treatment for hair growth: Take some coconut milk and warm it slightly. Massage the milk into your scalp for about 15 minutes. Once your scalp is covered, work it through your hair, from the roots to the tips and leave it on for an additional 45 minutes. Cover your hair with a shower cap. Wash your hair with your regular shampoo. Do it once a week.

10. Flaxseed Oil

Flaxseeds contain omega-3 fatty acids which can help prevent hair loss and strengthen your hair. Pregnant women take omega-3 [19] and omega-6 supplementation to prevent hair loss and to improve hair density during pregnancy.

To use flaxseed as a hair oil: Heat the flaxseed oil for a few seconds until it is slightly warm. Massage this into your scalp for about 15 minutes and work it through your hair. Once your hair and scalp are fully covered, wrap your hair in a hot towel. Wait for an additional 30 minutes. Wash your hair with a mild sulfate-free shampoo. Do this at least 2 – 3 times a week.

😳 What Tinnitus Does To Your Brain Cells (And How To Stop It)

After 47 years of studies and countless brain scans done on more than 2,400 tinnitus patients, scientists at the MIT Institute found that in a shocking 96% of cases, tinnitus was actually shrinking their brain cells.

As it turns out, tinnitus and brain health are strongly linked.

Even more interesting: The reason why top army officials are not deaf after decades of hearing machine guns, bombs going off and helicopter noises…

Is because they are using something called "the wire method", a simple protocol inspired by a classified surgery on deaf people from the 1950s...
