Our friends over at Prevent Disease put together an amazing “must-read” article about the health benefits of the ten types of seeds considered most beneficial to health. If you are interested in making some changes to your diet and looking to take your health and vitality to the next level, this is a seriously great way to go. I would suggest to get some Kilner Jars (or similar) as these make a brilliant way to store seeds. Glass doesn’t leach anything into the food and these “old school” types of sealed jar are not only perfect for longer term storage, but look cool as well.

Another thing that’s cool about having jars full of these seeds is that not only can you just put them on cereals or in smoothies and other recipes whenever you want (I put seeds on top of toast all the time!) but they make perfect, nutritious grab-n-go snacks when you are hungry… thus saving you from eating something unhealthy!

BUY ORGANIC seeds please! Don’t listen to any of the rubbish that you might hear by agribusiness “experts” trying to tell you that organic is no better. They are either misinformed or dishonest! Here’s something to contemplate: Why are organic pumpkin seeds darker in color than the non-organic ones? Have you ever noticed this? (You should have!) Might it be because organic soil is still alive? It contains lichens and other beneficial organisms that chelate minerals from the rocks into bioavailable form – meaning that they can be absorbed by the plants… leading to a richer color…. and better nutrition for you!

If you dump pesticides all over the soil, not only are the beneficial organisms wiped out, but the residues end up in the food also. Soil is a living system, not just “dead stuff”.

    Please expand your research to other geographic regions . For example last I set eyes on apricots was more than 25years ago . Simply these seeds are marvelous but unavailable in the place I live . Give us may be ten super nuts grown in tropics . Would like to know how best to get the benefits of Moringa oleifera , millet , groundnut , etc and the dosage .
    Would really appreciate !:-)

    Sorry, but Lichens grow on trees and rocks never in the soil. Lichens are a combination of bacteria and fungi.

    Fungi grow in the soil, like mushrooms. Watch your plants names!!!

    Incorrect! Lichens grow on and in ROCKS and chelate the minerals from the ROCKS thus making them bioavailable and part of the soil. From the Wikipedia page on lichen:

    “When growing on mineral surfaces, some lichens slowly decompose their substrate by chemically degrading and physically disrupting the minerals, contributing to the process of weathering by which rocks are gradually turned into soil.”
