Did you know that in the USA and other countries, the ingredients in beer are not required by law to be listed anywhere on the label??
Beer is regulated by The Department of Treasury – whereas food and non-alcoholic beverages are regulated by the FDA.
However it is not just USA beers. Guinness, Newcastle Brown and others do not list their ingredients.
According to the intrepid Food Babe – who has done amazing research into this topic – the alcohol industry has lobbied intensely against efforts to require ingredient labeling. Well of course they have! – It figures – because if people knew what they were actually consuming, they would not drink such a concoction – and the companies would lose money! What happened to real beer, made from hops, malt, yeast and water? Do people prefer the “junk” variety?
To be honest, I found the list depressing. Propylene glycol, artificial colors, HFCS. But there’s more – a lot more. What’s happened in the modern world? Doesn’t it matter to them what is in it, or is all fair – so long as it’s legal and profitable?
