Today’s “delicious discovery” is make-ahead oatmeal smoothies – an awesome variation on the fruit smoothie containing oatmeal, chia seeds and various fruits – depending on which of the flavors you decide to make!

One of the things I like about this recipe is that it teaches you how to make the “base” formula, gives you several flavor options which have been tried and tested – and then encourages you to create your own variations. This works for me – I am already thinking “walnut banana cacao maca”; and various fruit variations too.

Another thing that many will appreciate about these recipes is that they are “kid-friendly”. Some of them have the look and taste of a dessert, but are made with healthy ingredients.

This is an important point for people making the “switch” to eating healthy: It is often assumed that eating healthy means eating food that doesn’t taste all that exciting – however it’s simply not true. Eating healthy is all about the ingredients used – and this is a perfect example of the truth that once you know your healthy ingredients well, you can make recipes that are so delicious that you won’t feel as though you are “missing out” on the flavors of not-so-healthy food.

Another benefit is that the oatmeal smoothies are freezable – meaning you can make up a batch in advance and retrieve them when you need them.

    I make my oatmeal smoothie this way! I make large batches of the powder mix and fill it up in half gallon mason jars! In a dry vitamix blender I put dry old fashion oatmeal and raw almonds and honey wheat germ powder and dry blend into fine powder. When I make my smoothie in a clean dry blender I put frozen cut up bananas, frozen strawberries and frozen blueberries and large scoop of the powder mix blend and I add the vanilla flavor almond milk and blend away! Delicious!
