My first thought was “Where are you, Death Valley?” And then I found out DV hits 115 in May… anyway – for those of you looking for a delicious, healthy, refreshing way to cool off, this could be just the perfect time to indulge yourself in this all-natural recipe we discovered. The combination of lime and watermelon creates a very refreshing mixture that is neither too tart nor too sweet. It is just a perfect invigorating drink for the summer!



Coming from the citrus family, lime is an amazing fruit that brings goodness and wellness to the human body. According to some recent research, it is even thought to be beneficial towards respiratory disorders, urinary tract infections, gums, gout, peptic ulcer, piles, constipation and of course scurvy. In addition to being considered an aid to weight loss, lime is also thought to help in promoting eye health, better digestion, and improved skin health.

Watermelons are summer fruits known for their benefits to the body. Like tomato, watermelon is an excellent source of lycopene [1] (I didn’t know this!) – noted for its ability to combat free radicals that trigger the onset and development of many chronic degenerative diseases like cancer. Also, numerous scientific studies have already shown lycopene good for the cardiovascular health. Consumption of watermelon juice has been found to increase plasma concentrations of lycopene and beta-carotene. [2]

Furthermore, watermelons contain citrulline, an amino acid that plays a vital role in the production of arginine. Research shows that a high level of arginine in the body is beneficial in improving blood flow as well as in optimizing heart health. Watermelon is also rich source of beta-carotene, vitamin C, antioxidants, and potassium. When taken regularly, watermelon can reduce one’s risk for kidney stones, bone loss, cardiovascular diseases and certain types of cancer like endometrial, lung, colon, breast and prostate cancers.

When consumed individually, watermelon and limes are already known to offer amazing effects to the human body. What could be better that when they are consumed as one?
