Is there anything on the planet that is better than home-grown strawberries? When I was a kid, strawberries were literally my favorite food in the world.

Most of the strawberries found in the store are non-organic – which means that they have been sprayed with pesticides. The problem with this is that strawberries have been found to be one of the fruits with the highest levels of pesticide residues remaining in them.

As far as I am concerned – that’s a problem. So, maybe you’re interested to learn about growing your own? Then you have total control of what gets sprayed on them.

Have you ever noticed that home grown or wild-harvested fruit and veg always seems to have tons more flavor? I (and several others) think that a major part of the reason for this is due to the mineral depletion of many agricultural soils. One of the aspects of soil management which has been largely overlooked is that minerals are chelated from the soil by lichens and other microorganisms. [1] However, if many chemicals have been used, these microorganisms cannot survive – and so the minerals are not converted into the bioavailable form that they need to be in for them to be absorbed by the plant – and then by us.

This may also be the reason why properly grown organic produce is often darker in color. Interesting, isn’t it?

We’ve found a great tutorial for you if you are looking to get started in growing your own strawberries. Here is the link:
