We have found a ton of information about Apple cider vinegar (ACV) and all of its amazing properties! You will not believe how many uses there are for this remarkable liquid. Apple cider vinegar has been reported to heal many conditions – from minor ailments to serious illness. Some people swear by it. For example, apple cider vinegar is used across the world as a natural/alternative treatment for allergies, and is thought to reduce the risk of cancer.

Vinegar has been in use since ancient times – as a health remedy, cleaning agent and for many other purposes from household to science. Hippocrates (460-377 BC), the revered ancient father of medicine after whom the Hippocratic Oath was named, prescribed it for curing pleurisy, fever, ulcers, and constipation. [1] It was utilized throughout history in other societies as well; for example, the Egyptians are thought to have used it to kill bacteria and the Babylonians relied on it to preserve food and medicines. [1]

In Ancient Rome, Apple cider vinegar was considered the holy grail or fountain of youth. It was commonly consumed for its properties as an elixir; one that has been forgotten in modern times – until recently.

Fast forward to the future: Today, Apple cider vinegar is considered to be useful in cases of diabetes, heart disease and cancer. For example, in 2001 the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published a study [2] in which it was indicated that alternative or natural therapies like ACV might be more effective than prescription drugs and other western medical treatments. Apple cider vinegar is also useful in emergency situations such as jellyfish stings because it acts as a deactivating agent toward the venom. [3]

Apple cider vinegar is made via fermentation, which is very beneficial for digestion and has in some cases worked as a cure for acne. Apple cider vinegar is also commonly used as a treatment for other skin disorders such as warts. In fact, studies have shown that Apple cider vinegar can clear up blemishes and breakouts – avoiding the need for potentially harmful prescription medications such as Retin A or Acutane. [4]

Another little known fact we found in a scientific report: During the American Civil War, Apple cider vinegar helped to prevent scurvy and also was used as a disinfectant for wounds. [5]

Apple cider vinegar has the potential to balance pH levels in the human body. This process occurs because of the naturally-occurring acetic acid it contains. When PH levels are balanced, the body maintains an alkaline state which reduces the potential for disease. The acidic nature of apple cider vinegar may be too strong for some palates. For this reason, many people drink it with honey and lemon. Others prefer to add 1 Tablespoon to an 8-ounce glass of water.

We were surprised and intrigued to find that Apple cider vinegar has many benefits for hair health. Apple cider vinegar has been known to encourage hair growth and reduce the occurrence of breakage. To improve body and shine of the hair shaft, apply 1/2 Tablespoon of Apple cider vinegar mixed with 1 cup water after shampooing.

Another suggestion that is made with regard to consuming Apple cider vinegar (ACV) is to rinse the mouth afterwards. This is because, being acidic, there may be a possibility of harm to tooth enamel with long term exposure.

  1. Hi….. Thank you for great information… It really best stuff and I want to know how long should I consume internally…. Pls reply ……

  2. same question, different issue though. I went though half a bottle, figured the need to add honey to the vinegar, put about a half a shotglass of vinegar, added 1 tsp of honey, would have my water at hand, and then add another tsp of honey to drizzle down my throat to clear the taste away. Welp, my use of it is mainly for my kidneys. I am a six time cancer Survivor and starting to have serious kidney stones, infections, rushed to the hospital twice now; septic. BUT; wondering if I took too much because I ended up with what is commonly called “purple bag syndrome”..my ostomy bag which is clear plastic, turned a beautiful shade of purple, so did my urine. My doctors had never heard of this; so no help at all and am watching the crystals from this, start up again. Help, please??

  3. Can someone please advise on how much you’re suppose to take, how often and for how long??? Thanks

  4. It is the truth the Apple Cider help to cure allege ..

  5. I have been drinking ACV for about 6 months now. I mix 1-2 T. in about 8 oz. of orange juice. Makes the orange juice a little tart but much easier to drink that way.

  6. Thanks for this very helpful info. I need to try cause I had been suffering from acid reflux. Will post another one for any results. Thanks again

  7. Take 3 times per day. when you get up in the morning, mid morning and noon. See helpful directions on bottle.

  8. Some people take 2 teaspoons or more a day of apple cider vinegar mixed in a cup of water or juice. Tablets with 285 milligrams of dehydrated apple cider vinegar are also commonly sold.

What are the risks of taking apple cider vinegar?
Side effects. Taking small amounts of apple cider is probably safe. But larger doses, or long-term use, of apple cider vinegar could have risks. Taking apple cider vinegar at full strength could erode the enamel of the teeth and burn the mouth and throat. Throat injury from an apple cider vinegar tablet has also been reported.
Risks. Women with osteoporosis should be wary of apple cider vinegar. Used regularly, apple cider vinegar could reduce bone density. Because it can alter insulin levels, people with diabetes should not use apple cider vinegar without telling their doctors first.
Interactions. People taking laxatives, diuretics, and medication for heart disease and diabetes should check with a doctor before using apple cider vinegar supplements.

  9. Drinking apple cider vinegar in water can help to naturally improve your digestion. Take a tablespoon of ACV in a big glass of water around 15 minutes before a meal to stimulate digestive juices for better breakdown of your food.

It’s important to use raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar with the mother for this and all of the other health benefits listed below.

The mother is the cloudy strings of naturally occurring pectin and proteins that form during fermentation. Filtered and pasteurized vinegars will not have this and lack the enzymes and other nutritional properties in raw ACV that have such a positive effect on the digestive process.

Real apple cider vinegar, like this organic version I use, contains valuable minerals and trace elements, LDL cholesterol lowering pectin, fat burning acetic acid, anti-viral malic acid, live enzymes, amino acids and many other beneficial nutrients.

When you drink apple cider vinegar regularly, ideally before each main meal, you digestion improves and you naturally begin assimilating more from your food. This can also reduce hunger and help with losing weight. More on this ahead.

  10. 1-2 tbsps.with about 4oz.of water with meals as a daily regimen is healthy! Taken with a tsp.of honey in 8oz.of water is a beneficial health drink loaded with vitamins, minerals and enzymes, take daily 1-3 times. If you buy a bottle it gives address to order Apple Cider Vinegar book which explains all its uses and dosages. 🙂

  11. I have this in my cupboard and have used it but not consistently. I remember mixing with honey and water. Will definitely have to drink more consistently to get the benefits.

  12. I love this artice about apple cider vinigar (which I use) but until now only on salads!!! NOW….I’m going to use it a lot more…
    Thank you

  13. 1 tsp of Bragg organic apple cider vinegar, 1 spoon full of organic honey, 1 cup of water and mix it up and drink it daily 1-3 times a day, every day 🙂

  14. 2 teaspoons of ACV put in a glass (about 8oz) of luke warm water then drink in the morning with empty stomach or before consuming anything

  15. I read one place no more than two tablespoons a day. Then another say drink a few teaspoons before each meal and a tablespoon for breakfast. So I guess you need to just don’t over use this stuff. I personally love it with honey and drink it like a tea. Just limit myself to 1 cup of water and 1 tablespoon of acv and sweeten with honey to your liking. Also add fresh lemon and a few dashes of hot pepper 🌶!
