(Not medical advice): We just discovered a great article about food cures you can grow at home… reminding you that you can sometimes be self reliant – always a good feeling. These are some of the most popular, best herbs that have been used in home remedies since ancient times.

I am reminded of the “meme” that has been seen flying around the internet lately: “Medicine is not healthcare. Medicine is sickcare. Food is healthcare.”

These herbs not only have culinary uses but have numerous medicinal uses. To make life easier for you I have listed the nine herbs. Aloe Vera – burns, sunburn, healing the digestive tract. Not really a culinary herb per se, but the soft gel could be added to smoothies.

Basil – headaches, pain relief.

Lavender – skin conditions, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory.

Lemon Balm – cold sores, insect bites, natural insect repellent.

Peppermint – make tea with fresh peppermint leaves to ease nausea and minor digestive complaints.

Parsley – immune booster, also chew for fresh breath.

Rosemary – mood lifting, cold soothing with cinnamon.

Sage – infuse some sage leaves with boiling water, and when cooled, gargle for sore throat.

Thyme – antioxidant and antiseptic. Do not use if pregnant.

  3. Aloe vera is an amazing miracle working plant. I hurt my leg and it got infected so I went to an infectious disease doctor. He gave me a new product that had just come out. When I got home and read the ingredients, it was aloe vera. Nothing else, just aloe vera. My friends Jack Russell Terrier got attacked by a German Shephard. This resulted in a very large and deep wound. We all though she would loose her leg. We packed it with aloe vera gel and poured wheat grass on it. In ten days it was well.

  4. I read once of Aloe Vera being used as a remedy for cold sores. A workmate used to suffer terribly. She found that if she rubbed aloe vera jel ( from a leaf) on the area as soon as she felt a tingle the cold sore did not eventuate.

  5. Aloe Vera…very good to get rid of sun spots. Just a drop or two daily & within 2-3 weeks, all gone.
    My Dad used aloe vera 40yr ago to dissolve warts. He would break a small piece of the leaf & rub it on the wart…probly only 2-3 times/week.

I grow aloe vera with potted on my veranda.It become more green and very useful for daily life.I rub the jelly inside and added with sugar lemon juice and a bit of salt to make fresh juice to drink.It is miracle herb to release pain stomach upset and intestine.It is also suitable for meno pause and it is one of our home remedies of traditional medicine.
