Acne is a frustrating condition that begins when sebum (grease), dirt and dead skin cells get trapped in the pores of the skin, causing them to clog and allowing for the growth of bacteria. There are all kinds of treatments for acne available, but nowadays people are becoming rightly cautious about the amount of exposure of our skin to chemicals – and so interest in the use of natural remedies has increased.
The various remedies available – whether alternative or otherwise – work in different ways to combat acne and pimples. One mode of action is antibacterial: Get rid of the bacteria and the infection ceases. Other remedies provide “deep cleansing” that shifts dirt that gets left behind by ordinary washing.
The skin is one of the great cleansing organs of the body and toxins are eliminated via sweating. These toxins also are considered an influence on acne and pimples – and so eating a “cleaner” diet may be of benefit.
We found a brilliant tutorial listing 22 natural ways to prevent / clear up acne. These “cover all the bases” from keeping a clean pillowcase through to applying all manner of things to the skin – from potato through to lemon juice and many more besides.
One tip I would like to add would be to investigate the use of a more gentle soap on the face. The more harsh chemicals strip the natural oils from the face, possibly leading to increased oil production. That said, I would suggest to be sure to wash the face regularly. Washing the face with plain, cool water at least twice a day does wonders for the complexion in my opinion!
