We’ve discovered a great page listing home remedies for bug bites and stings. This is going to come in handy… whenever and wherever you are when you get stung, it too often seems to be somewhere away from “proper” first aid supplies. Looking at this list of remedies – from a copper penny through to a sugar cube – it seems as though there is a good chance that at least one of these might be within reach.
I have to say – this is a really interesting and diverse list. Some of these remedies definitely seem at first glance to be in the “weird” category – however looking at the comments to the page, you can see that several other people are in agreement that they work.
Maybe I am just a geek, but I find myself wanting more detail. Don’t get me wrong, I think the original is a good page – but I would like to see more of a “scientific” write up of why these work. I had come across the “onion poultice for wasp stings” remedy before and this is clearly an “old standard”. However, I feel as though in some cases, more detail would be appropriate. For example, the different stings of different creatures contain different types of venom – so I am sure that some of the remedies work better on some types of bite than others.
This is giving me ideas. I am feeling a new page coming on… but it might be more appropriate for my new site Off-Grid.info. What do you think?

Note – of course – that if you get bitten / stung by a “serious” critter, such as a black widow, or if you are experiencing / are likely to experience a significant allergic reaction, seek prompt medical attention!
