Those of you who are regular readers of the blog may already have discovered our other posts featuring ideas for things to do with lemon peel and oranges:
Today’s discovery fills a gap and provides a list of 10 ways to use orange peel. This is a really great list, I think you’ll be delighted and I don’t really feel the need to say too much about it.
I will just mention an interesting concept that relates to this post – the idea of the “zero waste home”. Self-explanatory, the zero-waste home attempts to reduce our “impact” and either re-use or recycle everything. Seems impossible? Some people are doing it. If you have never considered this before, I heartily recommend it. Not because it is going to make a profound dent in the overall waste mountain, but because of the awareness that it will bring you: First of all, we do not live in a vacuum. Everything we use ends up somewhere and it’s a great practice to contemplate the idea of a fully-sustainable human system that mimics natural cycles instead of the linear consume-discard pattern.
The second reason why the practice is good, is that in order to have a zero-waste home, we will have to become knowledgeable in materials. We will learn what is actually contained in all the items we purchase and discard – and will have to consider alternatives wherever possible. Alternatives such as re-using things that we normally discard… things like orange peels.
